The Fear of the Lord

2 Corinthians 5:11-13

 

Paul said he was motivated by the fear of the Lord, verse 11.

 

I. What is the FEAR of the Lord? 

   A. FEAR defined: “Alarm, or fright: be exceedingly afraid, terror.”

   B. We fear the Lord because:

      1. He has all power and is appointed to execute judgment, Matthew 10:28; John 5:22.

      2. You will give a strict, impartial account of your life, Hebrews 4:12-13.

      3. God’s wrath will be shown in the condemnation of the guilty, Hebrews 10:30-31.

 

II. The fear of the Lord transforms people, Proverbs 1:7; 3:7-8.

      

III. How do you know if you understand the FEAR OF THE LORD?

       A. You persuade people to be prepared to meet the Lord, verse 11.

       B. You live a life of godly character, pleasing to the Lord, verse 11.

C. You are sincere in your concern for the spiritual wellbeing of others, verse 12.

       D. You may be misunderstood by people, verse 13.
